Fundamentals: Know Your Sewing Machine $25 with Terry Owen
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – appropriate for adults and teens
Sat. 6/1 2:00-4:00pm
Bring your machine, accessories, attachments, manual, and thread and learn how to operate your own sewing machine with confidence. Threading, bobbin winding, stitching, special features, and simple maintenance will be covered in this very personalized class. All makes and models welcome. Please let the instructor know at registration what type of machine you will be using. If you would like to learn to sew but do not have your own machine, you may take this class using one of our store machines. You must reserve a store machine upon registration.
Fundamentals: Pillowcase Panache $25 + supplies or kit with Terry Owen
Skill Level: Beginner – appropriate for adults and teens
Tues. 6/4 6:00-8:00pm
This is a great first project for the beginner or those wishing to brush up their sewing machine skills. Using two different cuts totaling one yard of fabric, create a banded bed pillow case using basic sewing skills. Pick up a ready-to-go kit, or choose fabric yourself in the store. Student must be able to operate a sewing machine for basic stitching.

Landscapes and Architectural Quilts

Sat. 5/18, 5/25 AND 6/15 1-3pm
In this introduction to art quilting workshop participants will learn to simplify a photo of a place into a drawing, and transform the drawing into an art quilt- no sewing skills or sewing machine needed! Students will learn the basics of colors and composition and basic hand-stitching to complete the quilt. Any level of experience may enjoy this workshop with Like (pronounced Lee-ka) Simcock, the founder of Opening Minds through Art (OMA), and intergenerational visual art program for people with dementia.
Sewing Camp 101 for Kids $35 all inclusive with Gay Volz
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – ages 8-12
Tues – Fri. 6/4 – 6/7 2:00 – 3:30pm (4 sessions)
This class is for kids who have never sewn before. Learn the basic while making two fun projects, a mini pillow or pin cushion and a carry all bag for pool or camp. Learn how to thread a machine, adjust stiches, sew forwards and backwards, and create seams. Also learn tips for measuring accurately, hand sewing and finishing techniques. Kids will choose fabric from a selection provided.
Summer Tote Bag $35 + supplies with Gay Volz
Skill Level: Beginner – appropriate for adults and teens
Wed. 5/30 5:30 – 9:00pm
Make a large, functional and fashionable tote bag for the pool, picnics or shopping. The bag has two handles, pockets and a square bottom. Perfect for books, a trip to the farmers market, or to carry a fabric/yarn stash. Adjustments for style and size will also be covered in the class so you can make a collection of bags to fit every purpose.
Sewing Camp 102 for Kids $40 all inclusive with Gay Volz
Skill Level: Beginner/Experienced Beginner - ages 8 -12
Tues – Fri. 6/11 – 6/14 2:00 – 4:00pm (4 sessions)
Expand your sewing skills while making two fun projects to use all summer long. From a selection of fabric provided, make a treasure bag and chef’s apron from a selection provided. Review basic machine and sewing skills while learning to follow written directions, measuring, cutting and finishing techniques. Learn to make a casing and put on a pocket.
Quilted Purse
$40 + supplies with Gay Volz
Skill Level: Experienced Beginner
Thu. 5/16 AND 5/23 11am-2pm
Make a one-of-a-kind fashion purse. Students need basic sewing skills and will learn to cut out a pattern, pockets, zipper, use of batting, quilting, enclosed seams, and box bottom. The quilted purse has soft siding and is big enough to hold a iPad, Kindle, tablet or good old-fashioned book along with your wallet, sunglasses and hand sanitizer. Pack a snack if you need to. Students will have homework between classes, so you’ve been warned!
Swanky Sweatshirt Jacket $45 + supplies with Saundra Lee
Skill Level: Experienced Beginner
Fri. 5/17 AND 5/24 noon-3pm
Students will turn an ordinary sweatshirt into a one-of-a-kind stylish jacket. They will learn how to deconstruct and reassemble a sweatshirt, apply piping, create and apply facings, and how to fit the jacket. Students should know how to use a sewing machine and have basic sewing skills.
Rigid Heddle Weaving $60 + supplies with Nancy Niemeyer
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary

Sun. 6/2 2:30-4:30pm
In two days, students will learn skills required to direct warp a Rigid Heddle Loom, how to create the color and weave effect of a hound’s-tooth pattern, create a balanced weave, cut the cloth off the loom and fringe treatments for the scarf. Teacher will provide a Schacht 10 inch Cricket Loom kit to use as part of the class fee that can be taken home overnight and returned the next day so student can weave at home. See a sample in the store.
Fundamentals: Knit & Purl Basic $40 +supplies with Nancy Niemeyer
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary
Sun. 6/2 AND 6/9 noon-2:00pm
Learn the fundamentals of knitting. There are two sections of this two-part class, one for teens and one for adults. Both are designed for beginners. No experience required. Students will learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, and basic blocking.
Teen Weaving Camp $50 + materials (~$15) with Nancy Niemeyer
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – ages 12+
Tues. 6/11 10am – 1pm AND
Wed. 6/12 10am – noon
Weave up a multicolor block bag in two mornings. You will be able to choose from an assortment of brightly colored wools and weave on a small rigid heddle loom called the Cricket. You will learn to direct warp the loom and will weave a small weft faced strip of fabric using tapestry techniques, sew up the sides a attach a twisted cord for the strap. Register with a friend and have fun learning to weave.
Simple Hat Using Circular Needles $40 + supplies with Nancy Niemeyer
Skill Level: Beginner – appropriate for adults and teens
Wed. 5/15 AND 5/22 10:00am-noon
A great class for those with basic knitting experience or anyone who has just finished the Knit & Purl Fundamentals class offered previously. Take your skills to the next level as you use a circular needle and double point needles to learn ribbing, increasing, and decreasing. Learn to make soft caps perfect for all seasons.
Wonderful Wallaby Knit-Along $35 + supplies with Lynn Warner
Skill Level: Experienced Beginner
Sun. 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5 AND 5/19 1:30-3:30
The Wonderful Wallaby is a cozy, seamless hooded sweater that can be knit for anyone – from a child’s size 2 up to adult super-size. Samples are on display at SRT. This is a good first sweater project, as well as a great introduction to knitting in the round on circular needles. The basic construction lends itself to creativity. Skills necessary are simple increases and decreases. We will learn Kitchener stitch. This five part class will cover picking up the pouch, fusing the pouch, attaching sleeves and finishing.
Basic Sock Knitting $45 + supplies with Robin Dunkin Chadwick
Skill Level: Experienced Beginner
Thurs. 5/23, 6/13 AND 6/27 6:00-8:00pm
Summer is the perfect time to knit socks: they are small, transportable, and cool to knit! The goal of this 3 part class is to knit a wearable pair of adult socks. Basic knitting knowledge is required (knit, purl, cast on, bind off.) Skills learned include knitting in the round, short rows (for turning the heel), picking up stitches, slated decreases, and Kitchener stitch.
Fabric Coiled Bowls $35 + supplies with Amy Wallace
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary - Good manual dexterity in both hands is necessary
Wed. 5/15 6:00-9:00pm
Learn how to create funky fabric coiled bowls out of cotton fabric and rope. Amy’s bowl-making skills were featured on HGTV’s “That’s Clever!” Fabric coiled bowls are great both as presents and as a decorative way to be organized. Making bowls is a good way to use up larger scraps in your stash.
Silk Tie Dyed Scarf $40 with Terry Owen

Makes a great gift for Mother’s Day! Learn a process to create a one of a kind, unique, hand dyed silk scarf using old neckties. Ties will no longer be wearable after use, so clear out a closet, check out a thrift store. Bring five- six 100% silk neckties, all other supplies are included.

Nuno Felted Silk Scarf
$35 + kit ($20) with Kathy Savage Hubbard
Skill Level: No Experience Necessary
Sat. 5/4 10am-1pm
Learn the basics of nuno felting, a felting technique developed by Australian fiber artist Polly Stirling. The name is derived from the Japanese word “nuno,” meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose fiber (usually wool) to a sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt. Nuno felting often incorporates several layers of loose fibers, combined to build up color, texture, and design elements in the finished product. The fibers may completely cover the background fabric, or allow it to show through. In this class, students will be using luscious merino wool and silk to make a beautiful, lightweight scarf perfect for spring.

Using templates, create an 18-24” free-standing doll. Learn finger turning and wiring, advanced face-painting skills, and get ideas for trims and embellishments. This class develops skill introduced in the Daisy Doll-making class, so some previous doll-making experience is helpful.
College Hill Spring Fling – SRT demos and mini-classes all day long! (nominal supply fee for some mini classes)

Join our teachers throughout the day for demonstrations, mini classes, and take-away proejcts during the College Hill Spring Fling Art Show in the Gen Kress Parking lot behind the shop . Come and see what’s happening inside and out. Several local artists will also be showing and selling their beautiful wares. Perfect event for a Mother’s Days outing. Lots of free parking available in the lot across from the College Hill Coffee Co.
Sip & Stitch FREE

Every Thursday 6-8pm
